What you need
- 5–8 non-slip cushions or folded towels
- One large cushion, laundry basket, or other visible object to serve as the iceberg
How to play
Arrange the cushions or towels in a circle around the “iceberg.” They are floating sheets of sea ice; the floor is freezing water.
Become polar bears by crouching on all fours. Travel around the iceberg using small four-paw bear hops: place both front paws on the next ice floe, then hop your back paws forward to join them.
Take turns leading the parade and choosing when to change direction. Sometimes follow each other around the circle; sometimes begin on opposite sides and travel toward each other. When two bears meet, cooperate: make room, choose a safe route past, or offer a steady paw to help each other across.
If a paw touches the water, climb onto the nearest floe, rise up or sit back on your knees, growl, and gently beat your chest. Then drop back onto all fours and continue.
Keep the floes close enough for small, controlled movements. Use cushions that will not slide, and avoid long or forceful jumps.
